I Got Him

Subject featured in this piece: Western

When I was on a local ranch watching the cowboys work the calves, this is one of the phrases I heard many times.  When the calf’s hind legs are roped, they drag the calf to a point where the other hands can get hold of him to process.  Thus “I Got Him” tells the cowboy on the horse they have control of the calf.  The horse is an important partner in this work and does his job well.
